12/21/22 Summary of update from Daniel Parrish (Direct Communications)
- Direct Communications is currently finalizing the fiber optic project contract with the state.
- They expect to be able to start installation in the spring and complete the fiber optic network in Rico by the end of the summer.
- The first step is to “proof” the existing fiber optic duct work that was buried underground many years ago when the fiber optic cable was installed along Hwy 145 through Rico. There are no maps of where the ductwork was buried, so they have to figure that out and then determine whether it can be used or has to be replaced as part of the fiber optic cable installation process.
- They have contracted with a company in Utah to proof the ductwork and they are currently reviewing competitive bids for the entire fiber optic installation project.
- We should see activity beginning this spring (2023).
